You want to have fun and adventure and so you decide do travel somewhere to do it. Sounds like a simple enough definition. And basically it is. But what defines adventure? That is the key here and the answer can be different for different people.
The Sporting Type
For those who love sports, adventure travel can have a whole different meaning than for those who like history. The physical travel types you can find partaking in such adventure travel as white water rafting, kayaking or climbing and hiking to some exotic mountain somewhere. To the hiker, backpacking across Ireland might define adventure. For this type of person, adventure travel almost always includes something physical. Often the goal is to push their body’s limits and test their individual endurance.
Fun and Adventure
For those less inclined to climb mountains, adventure travel might mean traveling to Nepal and taking in the local festivals. Gambling in Las Vegas or wine tasting in Italy are also vacation adventures for the more sedate traveler. Anything that is a departure from the normal scope of the traveler’s typical lifestyle defines adventure.
All Shapes and Sizes
Adventure travel is not necessarily a one-size-fits-all type of vacation concept. Adventure depends on the person’s physical limits, financial capability and what the person enjoys doing. Going beyond the normal is adventurous for many. If your life is totally hectic and full of hustle and bustle then sitting on a moonlit beach with your spouse might define adventure for you. The point is not so what you do but that you have a good time and that it is an adventure for YOU – not for the person next to you.
Take the Plunge
Do not sit home this year when vacation time rolls around. Go beyond your normal routine and try something new. If you usually spend your vacation sunbathing on a beach, try hiking, instead, through the mountains. If you like to go to Mardi Gras each year, opt to switch tracks and check out some local festivals and concerts in California or even another country. Look around you, think beyond your comfort zone and head out on an adventure vacation.
